With just over 48 hours to go before the NHL draft, Habs general manager Kent Hughes and Vincent Lecavalier met with the Montreal media earlier this week to provide an update on various issues.

The two men went over the latest trade rumors and as reported by my colleague Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com, Hughes was of course asked about the possibility of trading in the first round.

He revealed that there are opportunities to trade the 26th overall pick in order to move up in the draft, but he has no intention of trading the first overall.

"The chances are better to advance to the first round with our second pick, than to trade the first pick overall."

With this statement, let's just say that the Habs GM may have unintentionally announced a possible trade involving his second first-round pick and according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the Habs will definitely make a move in the draft.

"Fourteen picks is huge, in fact, it's way too much.

I have a feeling that something will happen. There are too many teams right now in the NHL that are facing a tough situation. A salary cap increase of $1 million is not enough."

Lavoie also mentioned that an NHL organization can not have more than 50 professional contracts, which means that it is virtually impossible to sign 14 drafted players in the same year.

One thing is for sure, there will be plenty of action on the floor of the Bell Centre on Thursday night in the first round.
