In a press briefing in the last few seconds as part of the end-of-season review, Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes was asked about many topics, including Carey Price's future in the NHL.
And the GM was 100% transparent:
"We don't think there was any risk of playing him (Price). It was a question of seeing how his knee responds (...) it's a question of whether his knee can last a full season and we don't have the answer yet" - Kent Hughes, via TVA Sports
"It's going to depend on whether his knee is able to endure a full season of games, a full schedule." - Kent Hughes
"His knee is not 100 percent. The question is how his knee responds to games. He can go to the gym and practice, but has problems when he plays. The question, can his knee get back to the point of a full season?" - Kent Hughes
"I can confirm to you that his knee is not 100 percent, there is still a lot of uncertainty and a lot of big (about Carey's NHL future) The next few weeks will be critical."-Kent Hughes
So this will be (once again) a case to watch. Hard to say if the team is optimistic or not, and hard to say if Price played his last game, at the Bell Centre, yesterday.
