After a rougher start to the season, the New York Islanders seem to be back on track, winning their last three games, including two shutouts. Getting back to winning ways has certainly helped Lou Lamoriello to smile again!
Today, the Islanders general manager took the opportunity to sign one of his players to a new contract. Lamoriello signed Ross Johnston to a 4-year deal worth $4.4 million. But who is this Ross Johnston?
Johnston is a big guy at six feet, five inches tall who tips the scales at 232 pounds. He has played a grand total of 86 NHL games with the Islanders since the 2017 season and has put up a whopping 15 points since then.
But why such a great deal? It's not really surprising coming from Lou Lamoriello. Lamoriello has a tendency to offer long-term deals to his fourth line guys. In recent months, he did the same thing with Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas, who signed four- and six-year deals respectively.
One of them must be very happy to have signed such a deal!
