Among the names mentioned were John Klingberg and Tyson Barrie.
Major Development
Well according to new information from the reputable Pierre LeBrun, the Montreal Canadiens would have indeed tried to acquire John Klingberg.
Also according to LeBrun, Kent Hughes reportedly officially tabled a one-season contract offer to Klingberg, before he finally came to terms with the Anaheim Ducks.
Remember of course that last August, the Ducks signed Klingberg to a one-season, $7 million contract.
Unfortunately, the story doesn't say how much was offered by Hughes, but we do know that it was a one season contract offer for Klingberg.
Klingberg, 30, is a right-handed defenseman who had 47 points in 74 games last season. This year with the Ducks, he has 7 points in 15 games and a season high of 67 points.
The Swedish right-handed defenseman would have been a solid acquisition for the Montreal Canadiens, especially to give a huge boost to the power play, but it's interesting to see that Hughes (at least) tried.
He may come back for a similar style of defenseman in the next few months.
Would you have liked John Klingberg to sign with Montreal for one season and $7 million?
Certainly, with the Canadiens lack of depth at right back, this information makes a lot of sense.
