As you know, we had another major NHL transaction yesterday, as star forward Vladimir Tarasenko was acquired by the New York Rangers.

He already knows his place in the lineup:

Panarin-Zibanejad-Tarasenko

Kreider-Trocheck-Kravtsov

Lafreniere-Chytil-Kakko

Vesey-Goodrow-Leschyshyn

Solid! Anyway, let's recall the full trade, and more importantly, the return obtained for a Tarasenko:

To the Rangers:

- Vladimir Tarasenko (RW)
- Niko Mikkola (LHD)

At the Blues:

- Sammy Blais (LW)
- Hunter Skinner (RHD)
- Conditional 1st round pick 2023
- Conditional 4th round pick 2024

According to many experts, this major trade is bad news for the team we care about most, the Montreal Canadiens:

"If this is what it costs to currently acquire a first-round pick, I have a hard time seeing how Montreal will add another first-round pick." - Arpon Basu

As you know, every trade influences the market and asking prices, and clearly, this trade involving Tarasenko will have a huge impact on the ongoing negotiations.

Recall that several excellent sources have reported that Kent Hughes turned down a first round pick for Josh Anderson.

Is Anderson still worth a first round pick today? Is a Joel Edmundson still worth a first round pick? To be continued.

Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton really want to go after another high pick in this solid 2023 draft, they've made that clear, but it's getting tougher.

The next few weeks could be very interesting.
