As we all know, this will be a developmental season for the Habs, especially on defense. The starting lineup for the opening game against the Leafs features many defensemen who are making their NHL debut such as Kaiden Guhle, Arber Xhekaj, Jordan Harris and Jonathan Kovacevic.
On the sidelines of this game against the Leafs, Chris Johnston revealed a statistic that shows the inexperience of the CH defense. Mark Giordano alone (1,024 games played) has more NHL games than the CH's six defensemen combined (932 games).
"Mark Giordano has more NHL games played than the CH's cumulative total of defensemen in tonight's game against #leafs :
1,024 vs. 932."
You'll have to be forgiving this season with the CH defensemen, when there will likely be many moments when they find the game moving quickly. This will be a learning season that will set the foundation for the next few!
