With the rebuilding of the Habs well and truly underway, many hockey men seem to like what they see from Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton. Former CH player Mark Recchi is one of them.
The famed No. 8 recently spoke to Jimmy Murphy of Montreal Hockey Now about this topic. He even thinks the CH will become a better team than the Senators, who currently have a whole lineup of young players.
It may seem surprising, right now, but we love it! Check out his explanation :
"I like the direction (the Canadiens) are going since Jeff and Kent took over. You look at the teams coming up from the bottom and I put them at the top of that list. It reminds me of what the Senators have done in the last few years, but honestly, I think the Habs might be ahead of them sooner than you think. They're organizing very well." - Mark Recchi
"The Senators have done a good job of getting to this point, but it's been 2017 and I don't see it taking this long in Montreal. The Habs just had a good draft and I really like the Dach pick. This kid has a ton of potential and Marty St. Louis is the guy to help him reach it. You've got some good veterans out there to help and if they continue to do well, they'll be back much sooner than you think." - Mark Recchi
Coming from a guy who has played and coached the game, that's pretty encouraging. It will be interesting to see if Recchi's predictions come to pass. Until then, we can have hope!
