The arrival of Kent Hughes with the Canadiens could go a long way in helping the organization sign some players from the free agency. The new general manager, having been a player agent, has been in contact with several players during his career.
One such player is Pittsburgh Penguins' defendeseman Kristopher Letang. The beauty of it all is that he will become an unrestricted free agent under the terms of this season. In addition, Letang admitted on a number of occasions that he would love to put on the Tricolore uniform to complete his career.
Interestingly, Letang would not be willing to accept a salary cut with his new contract. He would even be looking for a contract of about four years that would bring him a little more than eight million a year, according to information reported by Josh Yohe, a journalist for The Athletic.
Will the Penguins be able to offer such a contract to number 58? He is not the only one in Pittsburgh whose contract expires this summer. There are also Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust who will have to renegotiate their agreement.
If the Penguins don't keep Letang's services, would you like to see Kent Hughes bring his former client and good friend with the Canadiens?
