With the start of Montreal Canadiens training camp literally around the corner, we'll soon have a lot of answers to our questions, including of course the lineup.
On this subject, the excellent observer Marc-Olivier Beaudoin has put forward an interesting suggestion:
"If all the CH forwards are healthy at the same time and Slafkovsky makes the club...
Monahan-Suzuki-Caufield
Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson
Slafkovsky-Dach-Gallagher
Pitlick-Evans-Armia
Where do you put Hoffman, Dadonov, Byron and even Pezzetta? That would take a trade! #Habs"
There's a nice surprise on the top three and I don't hate the idea at all. It's very surprising to see Monahan 1) on the wing and 2) on the first three, but it makes perfect sense.
Sean Monahan didn't lose his talent overnight, he was just injured, but now he's back to 100%, by his own account, and let's remember that not too long ago he scored 82 points.
Converting him to a winger (because of the surplus of center players) and putting him with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield could yield some very interesting results.
Of course, some will want to see young Juraj Slafkovsky in that position, but remember that even Auston Matthews started his career on a third line. It could be beneficial for the young Slaf.
It's also quickly apparent that if everyone is healthy, there is congestion on offense and it will be hard to find roles for everyone.
It will be extremely interesting to watch in camp.
And what do you think the CH's lineup will be to start the season? Do you like the idea of putting Monahan on the wing of the first line with Suzuki and Caufield?
