Last night, the fiery Patrick Roy was ejected from his team's game after he made it clear that he disagreed with a controversial decision by the officials.
It all happened in the first period of the game, when Roy got into a heated argument with referee Nicolas Dutil.
The two have a history together, as last spring, during the most recent QMJHL playoffs, Roy had severely criticized Dutil, who was on duty during the series against the Cataractes (a series that the Remparts lost in heartbreaking fashion).
On this very subject, Roy seems to believe that the league lacked judgment by immediately sending the same officials into the fray.
As I told my players, I don't feel I'm getting the same treatment as other coaches around the league. That's why I try to do as little talking as possible during games. [I thought it was funny that the league put them against Shawinigan in an exhibition game. They were tactless."
A point towards the league, and it's hard to argue with him. He also believes he doesn't get the same treatment as other coaches across the league, some unfairness, but on the other hand, he's also willing to take his share of the blame:
"Maybe I'm the one who's going to have to do a mea culpa, look in the mirror and find a way to digest it. It was fine up to that point, but when I saw them on the ice, I had a hard time understanding. Maybe I didn't have the right attitude when I left, maybe I should have put it aside, but that's not the type of person I am."
"In my good years, the hockey rack would have been flying back. Today [Saturday], I'm trying to stay calmer. I'll have to get over it. Maybe it will have done some good, what happened tonight."
A very interesting outing, because he got his message across, but in a different way.
One thing is certain, even if it took him a while to confirm his return, Roy is 100%, with all his fire and passion, and we love it!
