But obviously in such a catastrophic season, there are also some disappointments. The first one that comes to mind for many fans of the team is the difficult season of forward Mike Hoffman.
Acquired by Marc Bergevin as a free agent last summer, Hoffman has only scored 29 points in 61 games, which isn't catastrophic either, but what's most worrisome in his case is that he hasn't scored in his last 20 games.
Let's just say that at $4.5 million a year, it's starting to get expensive.
My colleague Alexandre Desrosiers, from Rumeursdetransaction.com, shared the suggestion of Danslescoulisses.com's Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, who suggested that Kent Hughes simply buy out the number 68's contract this summer.
Hoffman's contract expires at the end of the 2023-2024 season and if he were to be bought out, it would cost about $1.16 million per year until 2025-2026, which wouldn't be too bad for the Habs.
As we know, there has been a lot of speculation about Hoffman since Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton took over and even if they wanted to trade him this offseason, it would be hard to get anything substantial in return, not only because of his salary, but also because of his rather difficult season.
Not to mention that Hoffman does not have a very good reputation among other NHL executives.
