We all remember, the Blackhawks drafted Kirby Dach third overall in the 2019 NHL draft.
Technically, it's been less than 4 years since his draft, and in such a short time of evaluating his performance, which was clearly affected by the serious wrist injury he suffered in 2021, it should be specified, the Hawks decided to throw in the towel with the 21-year-old.
With the Habs set to face Chicago tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. due to the American Thanksgiving celebrations, RDS reporter Patrick Friolet had the opportunity to speak with star forward Patrick Kane about his former teammate.
Number 88 had nothing but good words for Dach and he was careful to slip a subtle arrow on the poor Hawks management:
"We're happy for him. He had a tough role with us on a third or fourth line. When he played in an offensive role, he was successful. I loved playing with him, he created space for me on the ice.
It's hard to come into the league at 18-19 as the 3rd overall pick. The expectations are high. When you're playing on the 4th line, you don't play as much as you should. He showed a lot of potential, but was in a tough role." - Patrick Kane
It must be said that if Kane says it, to the effect that Dach never had a real chance to shine and that he played in a difficult role when he was on the team, it is because he himself considers that the management of the latter left something to be desired, especially from a young player who showed excellent potential.
Moreover, the 33-year-old American was particularly upset to see that his organization had just traded Alex DeBricat and Kirby Dach in quick succession in the same day, during the draft. He had to have a meeting with his agent Pat Brisson, along with Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones, to defuse the frustration.
It will be the first game of the number 77 against his former formation and clearly he will want to male them pay to make his former GM regret.
