After the signings of Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson, Brady Tkachuk is now the only big player still without a contract at the time of writing this post. If the signings of the two Canucks stars were supposed to push the Senators and the Tkachuk clan towards an imminent deal, it is certainly not the case.

According to Pierre LeBrun, things are still not looking good in this matter.

"It's still not the kind of progress that both sides were hoping for and I think it's a lot for the Senators to make it an 8-year deal or at least a 6-year deal. If this ends up being a bridge deal, that's a red flag to me in terms of Brady Tkachuk's future in Ottawa!"

So, if a two or three-year bridge deal is signed, for example, LeBrun seems doubtful about Tkachuk's future with the Senators. Add to that the fact that Tkachuk has already mentioned beforehand that he didn't want to make a long-term commitment to the team since he wanted to observe what the team would do in the next few years.

Let's face it, a deal that drags on this long rarely ends well, even if the player continues with the team. Often, the arduous negotiations erode relationships and after a while, the player ends up being traded... Let's hope for the Sens that this issue is resolved without too much bickering.
