This season, the duo of Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault has had their ups and downs and many experts are not convinced that the Habs are headed for success with this tandem in net.
As reported by Alex Néron of Fanadiens.com, a goalie could be very interesting this summer on the free agent market.
Ville Husso of the St. Louis Blues will become a free agent on July 13, and according to Elliotte Fridman, there are two options available to him.
One is to become the number one goalie with the Blues and the other is to test the free agent market.
However, his partner with the Blues, a certain Jordan Binnington, took the number one spot away from him during the playoffs and it's mainly the fact that Binnington is still under contract for five years at $6 million a year that is putting a damper on Husso signing a new contract in St. Louis.
Although he put up better numbers than Binnington during the regular season, the 27-year-old Finnish goaltender had to give up the net to Binnington in Game 4 of the series against the Minnesota Wild, which would suggest that Binnington could be the starting goaltender for the upcoming season, for sure! And considering that he has only played 57 career games in the NHL, he shouldn't cost too much under the circumstances.
Could Ville Husso be an interesting option for Kent Hughes this summer? And if Husso ultimately stays in St. Louis, could we target Jordan Binnington?
One thing is for sure, if the Habs want to improve their fortunes in net, it might be a good idea to look at St. Louis.
