For the past few days, it's been a rumor that has been circulating a lot in Montreal and also in Washington, when Marc Denis revealed that Kent Hughes is interested in Russian goalie Ilya Samsonov, of the Washington Capitals.
Clearly, Hughes and Jeff Gorton seem to be setting the stage, in case Carey Price isn't able to return.
This afternoon, during the program On Jase, broadcasted on RDS, a listener asked Denis about Samsonov.
See his response:
"The reality is that Samsonov, maybe the (bad) work habits are the issue, me, too, what I hear most is the precarious state of health, injured in the groin more often than not. He is still young, he has not proven everything." - Marc Denis
Interesting new information, which helps to put things into perspective. Denis adds:
«The last thing I will say is that the Canadiens have had enough of injured goaltenders this season. Do you want to get into another episode like this?" - Marc Denis
Clearly, despite these comments, Kent Hughes seems interested, but we must admit that there are red flags.
We had to suspect that. For a GM to consider trading a young goalkeeper, with this talent, it certainly comes with question marks. It will be interesting to watch what happens with him.
Would you still like to see him land in Montreal?
