As we've told you many times over the past few weeks, the odds of seeing #26 leave Montreal are very good and as reported by David St-Jean of Marqueur.com, a Western team would be very interested in acquiring the American defenseman.
According to insider Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now, the Dallas Stars are still waiting to hear if Swedish defenseman John Klingberg will test free agency, and according to several experts, there is little chance he will be back in Dallas next year.
But if Klingberg does sign with a new team, Stars GM Jim Nill will have to find a plan B on the right side of the defense, and it would seem that Petry is the ideal candidate for the Texas team.
However, Kent Hughes had mentioned that he intended to get maximum value for his defenseman. Despite Petry's strong finish to the season under Martin St. Louis, it doesn't change the fact that he still has three years left on his contract at $6.25 million per season.
Under the circumstances, it wouldn't be surprising at all if number 26 were to be in his position at the start of the season with the Habs. Also, the fact that Martin St-Louis will be back as head coach next season could give him another reason to stay in Montreal.
On the other hand, if Klingberg does leave Dallas, don't be surprised if we announce that Jeff Petry is traded to the Stars. Stay tuned!
What would you ask for him?
