As we reported to you earlier today, Pierre Lebrun confirmed that the Canadiens and the New York Rangers would be in discussion with the aim of completing a trade which could involve a young defender from the Rangers organization and Ben Chiarot. .

Among the young defenders mentioned by Lebrun are Braden Schneider, Nils Lundkvist, Matthew Robertson and Zac Jones.

In addition, today, Mathias Brunet, reporter at La Presse, added a layer during his intervention on 91.9 Sports.

Brunet said that the defenseman Kent Hughes should try to get is Nils Lundkvist .

A Rangers' first-round pick in 2018, the young right-handed defenseman has played 25 games this year in the NHL. Also, as Brunet mentions, he's stuck behind Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba and his potential is currently untapped by the Rangers.

However, if the Canadians wants to make his acquisition, Ben Chiarot alone would not be enough, still according to Brunet.

Lundkvist has great offensive potential, having had 32 points in 52 games in his last season in Sweden last year, and he would be a perfect candidate to replace the eventual loss of Jeff Petry in the long term.

In your opinion, should Kent Hughes pay a little more than a Ben Chiarot to bring the young defender to Montreal?
