A few days ago, when the Canadiens traded Tyler Toffoli to the Flames in exchange for Tyler Pitlick, a first-round pick, another fifth in 2024 and prospect Emil Heineman, many hockey fans must have wondered who was this intriguing Swedish prospect.

As the latter had already been involved in a trade last year at the trade deadline, some Habs fans have expressed doubts about his potential.

Kent Hughes met with the media on Wednesday and he added more details regarding this transaction with the Flames :

«We could have had a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and a 5th round pick for Tyler Toffoli, but between having a 2nd round pick in the next draft and a 2nd round prospect two years later early, we preferred the prospect. [...] It was important for me to call Emil Heineman and talk to him before the trade was announced, to explain to him that we insisted that he be part of the trade and that he was not just a player added. »

This is enough to reassure hockey fans about the real potential that Heineman could bring to the Canadians.

But what is really interesting in all of this is that the new Habs staff is looking more for young prospects (already drafted) than draft picks, in order to speed up the process of rebuilding the team.

Which bodes very well for the future.
