Even though they're on summer break, the excellent Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek (Sportsnet) just unveiled a surprise and really interesting episode of their podcast 32 Thoughts.

They discuss Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jonathan Huberdeau, Matthew Tkachuk, Nazem Kadri and John Klingberg, among other things.

As for the segment on Nazem Kadri, Friedman provides some very interesting new information and puts to rest a recurring rumor:

"I thought it was over for the Colorado Avalanche (in the Nazem Kadri derby), but someone knowledgeable told me: not so fast.

I know there is this rumor going around that many believe they are trying to trade Samuel Girard, to give themselves room (under the salary cap) to sign Kadri, but I don't believe that is true. From what I'm told, that's not what they want to do and they've made it pretty clear. They don't want to trade Girard to sign Kadri." - Elliotte Friedman

So the verdict would be in. For those who were still hoping, we can forget it. Sam Girard will not be traded and we can perfectly understand the Avalanche wanting to keep him.

Girard, a 24 year old native of Roberval, is a 5 foot 10 inch defenseman with 28 points in 67 games last year (and 32 points in 48 games in 2020-21).

Kadri, 31, with 87 points in 71 games in 2021-22. (and 15 points in 16 playoff games)
