Logan Mailloux's name will certainly never be unanimously accepted by CH fans. The one who was selected, to the great surprise of everyone, by Marc Bergevin in the 2021 draft, will have a lot to prove if he wants to have a chance with the club, and we're not talking here on the ice.
Even Gary Bettman recently put his two cents in when he mentioned that the league was still considering his future. The chances of the NHL giving him a second chance seem high though.
"We'll evaluate the matter if and when the Habs decide to take him to the NHL level. I think depending on the circumstances and the person, it's possible to get a second chance. It's case by case. But basically, we haven't addressed that issue yet." - Gary Bettman
Based solely on his play on the ice, it appears that Mailloux is developing very, very well. His offensive game as well as his defensive and physical game are excellent in the OHL. He currently has 31 points (13 goals and 18 assists) in 35 games with the London Knights this season.
His performances have made the CH very happy with him as Renaud Lavoie recently mentioned in an appearance on TVA Sports' JiC.
"He's dominating right now and the reports that the Canadiens' management has of him are very, very good." - Renaud Lavoie
This is great news!
Mailloux, who spent his summer in Montreal, has thus rubbed shoulders with several current CH players, including captain Nick Suzuki. He seems to have been accepted by the group, which is a very good sign for him.
Everything points to Bettman agreeing to bring Mailloux into the league next season.
If he has a good camp, he could, who will be 20 years old next April, imitate Kaiden Guhle and get a job with the big club. It will be difficult though, because if nothing changes, next fall there will be congestion on the club's blue line with Kaiden Guhle, Jordan Harris, Arber Xhekaj, Mike Matheson, David Savard and maybe even Justin Barron all in the running.
In short, Lavoie reports that the news is great about Mailloux and there is a real chance that he will follow in Kaiden Guhle's footsteps and make the 2023 roster.
Mailloux will also be able to play with the Rocket in the AHL next season if the CH cuts him. He will be able to develop in professional hockey and take advantage of call-ups with the big club when it is plagued by injuries.
What is your prediction on this?
