The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to a two-season contract extension with forward Ryan Poehling worth $750,000 annually.
When he plays with the Laval Rocket, he will be paid $225,000. In addition, the first year of his pact (2021-2022) is a two-way deal, while in 2022-2023, his contract will be one-way.
The former Habs' first round pick in 2017 has accumulated a total of 5 points, including 4 goals, in 28 games with the big club since the 2018-2019 season. He had his best career campaign at the professional level last year when he had 25 points, including 11 goals, in 28 games with the Laval Rocket.
The 22-year-old American center will have every chance in the world to break into the Montreal lineup this year. There is no guaranteed spot at center, except for Nick Suzuki. For the others, it will be a fight without mercy. Poehling showed some great things last year, which will give him a lot of confidence going into the Canadiens training camp next month.
