Carolina Hurricanes star player Sebastian Aho seems to be an individual inhabited by an unwavering sense of humor. Familiar with hostile offers, Aho poked fun at the "trolls" that the Canes' Twitter account exercised with the Montreal Canadiens following the hostile offer tabled to Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
The part that seems to have amused him the most was the $20 signing bonus that KK received, referring to Sebastian Aho's number. Recall that this one had also received a hostile offer from the Montreal Canadiens in 2019.
"To be honest, it's pretty funny to see a $20 signing bonus," Aho told ESPN on Thursday's NHL Player Media Tour. "All kidding aside, we got a really good player in Jesperi Kotkaniemi."
Aho fully endorsed the method of entertainment taken by the Hurricanes on Twitter. He said it's okay to draw public attention to yourself in this way. Plus it adds flames to a potential rivalry, which likely ignites Aho.
"It got people talking. I think it's going to be a good thing. It will be fun to play them next year," Aho said. "That's part of the business. Social media is so huge these days. You don't have to play a game and you already have a buzz."
Aho has inevitably thrown a cold shower on the head of the Canadiens organization, and even Montreal fans. Already that Aho had indirectly mentioned not wanting to play for the Habs, despite the fact that he had signed the hostile offer in 2019.
The October 21 duel will be very interesting. This date will mark the return of Jesperi Kotkaniemi at the Bell Centre, a duel that may be under the spotlight.
