With the NHL Draft coming up in July in Montreal, all the top prospects are gathered on the Buffalo side for the famous combine.
Taking place for the first time since 2019, this event is, in most cases, the first direct contact that young prospects have with the leaders of the 32 NHL teams and is the ideal opportunity to make a good first impression.
Obviously all eyes are on Shane Wright, the top prospect in the upcoming draft and as reported by my colleague Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com, no less than a dozen teams have scheduled a meeting with the Kingston Frontenacs' center.
Unsurprisingly, the Canadiens, Coyotes and Devils have the top three selections in the first round. However, while many teams will meet, or have already met, with the young prospect, it is becoming increasingly clear that Wright will end up with one of the top-3 teams.
A trade is still not impossible, but the fact that Wright has had a meeting with several organizations is proof not only of his talent, but also that he is a great hockey head.
Many teams live on hope and it's interesting to know that 12 teams have met with him.
The "combine" for the draft will end this Saturday and the next step will be the NHL Entry Draft on July 7-8 at the Bell Centre.
