Sidney Crosby, who has long been known as "Sid the Kid" or the "Kid", has been playing in the NHL since the 2005-06 campaign, when he scored 110 points. It was also the last year for Mario "The Magnificent", who played 26 games. That's more than 15 years ago, and number 87 will be entering his 17th year in the league in 2021-22. WOW!
That said, Crosby turned 34 on August 7, and in a recent interview, he said he hopes to play four more years, which would put him at 38 (after the 2025-26 season). Crosby still has plenty of fuel in his legs, but he is certainly exhausted from living so intensely for hockey, not to mention his many concussions during his career.
So far, his career has been glowing and VERY decorated, with 1,325 points in 1,039 games, three Stanley Cup, one Mark Messier Trophy, two Maurice Richard, two Art Robert, two Hart, three Ted Lindsay and two Conn Smythe. Not to mention everything he won at the junior level.
What a man! What an athlete! What a great player, certainly one of the greatest in NHL history!
Here is the entire interview which is really worth the detour:
