Some surprising names could end up on waivers in order to respect the maximum of 23 players in the official roster.
But who makes the decisions in the end, what is the role of Martin St-Louis in all this?
To comment on the issue, the excellent André Tourigny was on BPM Sports, and he very clearly explained that Martin St-Louis will have no say in the big decisions of the next few hours.
It's 100% Kent Hughes' decision, as Tourigny mentions. Even if St-Louis has a few favorites, it's Hughes who makes all the decisions.
Check out his very clear and colorful comments, just the way we like them:
Basically, if any controversial decisions are made between now and next Tuesday, Martin St-Louis will have had absolutely no say in the matter.
As Tourigny mentioned, while the head coach would like to keep several youngsters in Montreal on rookie contracts, Kent Hughes will not be waiving all his veterans.
Obviously, because of the contracts and the way it works, some youngsters will get waived and some veterans will get saved. A player like Mike Hoffman is preferred to Emil Heineman, for example, for strict contractual reasons even though St. Louis really likes Heineman.
We can't wait to see this final lineup! Hughes won't put "all of his one-tiered contracts on the waivers", but could he surprise us with one, like Mike Hoffman or Joel Armia? Stay tuned!
