The team suffered a fifth straight loss on Saturday against the Washington Capitals and at times it looked like the Habs from the beginning of the season.
While the offense has regained some bite, the defense has been struggling lately. Indeed, as reported by Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com, Stépahne Waite made a rather disturbing statement regarding the Habs' interim coach.
Speaking on the Zone Out podcast, the former Habs goaltending coach made it clear that the team's defense will need to be better structured, and as quickly as possible, or St. Louis' NHL coaching career could be short-lived.
Quite a statement from Waite.
However, on St. Louis' defense, he's had to deal with several young defensemen since his arrival, plus the departures of Ben Chiarot and Brett Kulak. Not to mention the injury to young Justin Barron who had been playing good hockey since joining the Habs.
However, it is clear that starting next year, St. Louis will have to put a little more order in the team's defensive game, in order to better support the goaltenders and take some pressure off the offense.
