Surprise revelation involving Habs goalie Carey Price who is back, against all odds, on the list of the best despite his inactivity
How highly is Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price respected by other players in the National Hockey League? To this extent!
In the last few minutes, the media outlet The Athletic has published its traditional anonymous survey of players from the NHL.
This means that numerous (anonymous) NHL players responded to various questions, like these:
- Who is the best NHL player this season?
- Who is the best NHL goalie this season?
- Who are the best and worst referees?
- Which player would you most like to hit (with a punch)?
We will focus on the other points in another article, but in short, nearly 70% of players named Connor McDavid as the best player, followed by Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov.
The player others most want to "punch in the face" is Nick Cousins (29%) followed by Brad Marchand at 14%.
Finally, 53% of players consider Wes McCauley the best referee, followed by Kelly Sutherland (18%).
Carey Price named by NHL players?
What we really wanted to focus on here is the category of "the best goaltender in the world, currently".
44.26% of players named Andrei Vasilevskiy, 15.3% named Connor Hellebuyck, and 7.65% named Ilya Sorokin.
However, there is a very interesting name on this list.
Among the list of the world's best goalies currently, according to NHL players, there is a goalie from the Montreal Canadiens.
It's not Samuel Montembeault nor Jake Allen!
You guessed it... it's Carey Price!
Obviously, we don't believe this means that some players think he's going to come back, but we find it very interesting because it says a lot about the respect that Price commanded (and still commands) in the NHL!
His last complete season was in 2020-21, and yet, there are still players in 2024 who believe he is the best goalie in the world. Wow.
