There is more and more smoke, and every year, surprising trades are announced at this stage of the year.
Kent Hughes notably did it two years ago by trading Tyler Toffoli to the Calgary Flames.
Here's one that took us by surprise. For those who don't know Poitras, we're talking about a steal from the 2022 draft.
Selected 54th overall, the 19-year-old forward has defied all predictions by already becoming an important player for the Bruins.
He has a solid 15 points in 33 games (in his rookie campaign), after amassing 95 points last season in the OHL.
We didn't see it coming, but apparently, the Bruins would be open to trading Poitras for immediate help at center:
We know that the Bruins are really interested in acquiring a Sean Monahan or an Elias Lindholm, to try to win the Stanley Cup, as early as this season, but they have absolutely no interesting draft picks to offer.
Their only trade asset, worth a first-round pick, is precisely the young Poitras.
This explains that.
And there is this:
So it could be a very interesting option, and even though I'm really not a fan of trading Monahan, for a Matthew Poitras, it would certainly be worth it and would go in the same direction as the acquisitions of Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook.
It remains a vague possibility, but it is raised by very reliable journalists.
And you, would you trade Sean Monahan for Matt Poitras?
It must be said that the veteran Canadiens center player is the second-best player available at his position in the entire NHL, currently, right behind Lindholm.
