A few days ago, we speculated (for fun) about the possibility of the Montreal Canadiens acquiring Quebec forward Anthony Beauvillier.
It seemed realistic, especially since tipster David Pagnotta has already linked Beauvillier's name to Montreal:
Well, to come back to it, there is some new and interesting information.
According to what Jimmy Murphy (Montreal Hockey Now) is reporting, according to a reliable NHL source, the Montreal Canadiens are officially interested regarding New York Islanders winger Anthony Beauvillier.
"More than one NHL source has confirmed to NYI Hockey Now that New York Islanders winger Anthony Beauvillier is on the NHL trade market as general manager Lou Lamoriello attempts to clear some cap space needed to finally sign unrestricted free agent Nazem Kadri.
After learning this from NYI Hockey Now Islanders senior reporter Stefen Rosner, Montreal Hockey Now did some research and discovered via a reliable NHL source that the Montreal Canadiens are one of several teams interested in acquiring the Sorel-Tracy, Quebec native.
According to this source, there have been at least exploratory discussions about Beauvillier [...]" - Jimmy Murphy Still according to Murphy's source, it would be the Islanders' (and Lou Lamoriello's) refusal to receive salary in exchange, which would complicate a possible deal (for the Montreal Canadiens, but also for other interested teams).
The Islanders' general manager wants to release Beauvillier's entire salary, without receiving any other contract in exchange.
Basically, Lamoriello doesn't want to receive a Mike Hoffman, a Christian Dvorak, a Joel Armia or a Paul Byron, in exchange for Beauvillier, he just wants a draft pick(s).
Would you do it? Trade a pick or picks for the Quebec forward?
Then Hughes should quickly find a way to trade contracts.
Beauvillier, 25, had 34 points (12 goals) in 75 games with the Islanders in 2021-22. From 2019-2021, he produced at a rate of 50 points per 82 games.
Beauvillier earns $4.15 million through 2024.
For the interesting details:
