Petry will remain in Brossard this week, so he won't be joining his teammates, who are currently on the road, but he shouldn't leave for the United States either. (not this week, at least)
On the other hand, if at the end of the week, we realize (with the CH) that the injury is serious and that it would be better for the veteran defenseman not to play anymore this season, the organization will seriously evaluate the possibility of letting him leave to join his family, in Michigan. This would be the beginning of the long summer break for him, before anyone else.
That's what's reportedly brewing behind the scenes, according to the excellent Max Truman.
If Petry's season is indeed ever over, it could provide a great opportunity for young defensemen (like Justin Barron and Jordan Harris) to step up and get big minutes and try to establish themselves in the best field hockey league in the world.
And as we saw yesterday, interim head coach Martin St-Louis is not afraid to trust his young players.
We talked about it on Saturday, but once again, we have to wonder if Jeff Petry played his last game in a Montreal Canadiens uniform.
It's a developing issue, but don't be surprised if we announce Petry's departure to join his team.
We all know that Petry wanted to be traded, but that Kent Hughes could not accommodate him at the trade deadline.
