Brady Tkachuk is the Ottawa Senators' only restricted free agent, but all indications are that the two sides are getting closer to a deal. Rumours indicate that the power forward would get an eight-year contract, which would pay him an annual salary of about $8 million, as would fellow defenseman Thomas Chabot.

The team's plan would also be to name Tkachuk as captain of the ship at the end of training camp. The camp in question will begin on September 22, so the entire team wants its future captain to be there so as not to create a situation that could quickly wither away.

Do I need to remind you how important Brady Tkachuk is to the Ottawa Senators? The number 7 is the one who is holding the torch high for this rebuilding Ontario team. At only 21 years of age, Tkachuk has proven that leadership runs in his veins. Off the ice, he does the same, as he is home to Tim Stützle.

Last year, Keith's son had a total of 36 points, including 17 goals, in 56 games. But that's not all, he also handed out 248 checks and disturbed his opponents like no other with his hands and his fists. We're talking about a real player, a bit like Corey Perry was in his prime, so the Sens can't let a prototype like that go, can they?
