The young Ottawa Senators will continue to surprise many this season. The D.J. Smith led team continues to progress at a rapid pace and they gave the rest of the Canadian teams a run for their money at the end of the last regular season.
This young team also accomplished a feat that no other team in the NHL was able to do last year. Of the 31 teams in the National Hockey League, Ottawa was the only team not to be shutout last year during the special 56-game schedule.
That's pretty impressive for this young and talented team. Everyone knows that the future looks very bright in the federal capital with Tkachuk, Norris, Chabot, Batherson, Stützle, Pinto and Brannstrom.
The next season will be a big challenge for the Senators, as they will be competing in the same division as the Bruins, Panthers, Maple Leafs and the Canadiens. Remember that the top three teams in the division will qualify for the playoffs as well as the two best second place teams in the Eastern Association.
It would be surprising to see them finish in the top three in this division, but that doesn't mean they should be out of the playoff race! The Sens could cause an upset and take one of the last two playoff spots in the East.
