Why? Well, because TSN's very own Bob McKenzie finally revealed his list (his ranking) of the top prospects for the upcoming draft.
For almost 15 years, McKenzie has been the most reliable and accurate because he has extremely privileged contacts within NHL teams.
Surprisingly, contrary to many, the veteran journalist has placed Slovakian Juraj Slafkovsky at the very top of his rankings. (ahead of Shane Wright and ahead of Logan Cooley)
Why is this major and why do we think that the identity of the player that will be drafted by Kent Hughes at number one overall was just revealed today?
For this very reason:
This is pretty crazy. Since 2009, Bob McKenzie has NEVER been wrong with his prediction of the first overall pick.
And for many of those drafts, his first pick was not unanimous. Notably, the year of Taylor Hall (against Tyler Seguin), the year of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the year of Nathan MacKinnon (many thought Seth Jones was going to be the Avalanche's pick), the year of Aaron Ekblad, the year of Nico Hischier (many thought it was going to be Nolan Patrick)... In short, McKenzie has solid sources.
If he says Juraj Slafkovsky will be the first overall pick, you can absolutely believe that has a good chance of happening.
