Allan Walsh, who is Huberdeau's agent, confirmed via his Twitter account that an important meeting for the future of his client took place in Montreal. Indeed, Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving made the trip to Montreal on Monday night to meet with his new acquisition.
It's safe to say the GM wanted to get a pulse on his new player quickly. It wouldn't be surprising if he went into seduction mode and asked Huberdeau for his special requests!
It will be interesting to see what Huberdeau's demands are. We know, according to what has been revealed, that he would be looking for a 7 or 8 year contract and an annual value of between 9 and 10 million dollars. Will he ask for more since he plays in Canada and especially in Alberta?
Beyond the salary demands, it would be interesting to see what Huberdeau asked of Treliving, in order for him to agree to sign long-term with the Flames.
Did he ask the GM to acquire a particular player, the certainty that he would not be traded, a promise that MacKenzie Weegar will be with him long term as well? We'll know soon enough depending on the GM's personnel moves.
Huberdeau has the big stick on this one and can make whatever demands he wants, as long as they are reasonable. Treliving will have no choice but to try to make them happen so as not to lose face next summer. Losing Huberdeau also means losing the Matthew Tkachuk trade, something he absolutely cannot afford.
CH fans may be disappointed by the end of the year if Treliving can really charm the Quebec forward.
Habs fans will be watching this file very closely!
