Arber Xhekaj continues to grow in popularity, both among Montreal Canadiens players and fans.
Even his opponents are getting serious about him, including head coach DJ Smith:
It's been a long time coming for Xhekaj, as the excellent Gord Miller recently revealed that OHL players were downright afraid to play the Canadiens' young rookie defenseman last season:
Xhekaj, 21, is really making himself indispensable to the success of the Montreal Canadiens, and he has created a unique role for himself. It's becoming more and more unlikely that he will be cut in the next few days.
We need our policeman on the ice. By the way, TVA Sports reporter Marc-André Perreault revealed Xhekaj's nickname when he played junior, and it fits him perfectly.
"Xhekaj's nickname in junior was 'The Sheriff'." - Marc-Andre Perreault
The sheriff is in town, in Montreal, and he's there for good if you ask me. He already has his nickname!
