One of the transactions that generated a lot of reaction this past summer was the acquisition of Christian Dvorak from the Arizona Coyotes in response to Jesperi Kotkaniemi's departure to Carolina. (via hostile offer)
Marc Bergevin then sent a conditional first round pick and a second round pick in 2024 to the Coyotes in return for Dvorak.
Let's remember here the famous condition attached to the trade: the CH must give up (to the Coyotes) its highest draft pick (between its own and the one received from the Hurricanes), unless the Habs' pick becomes top-10.
Well now, with the loss to the Winnipeg Jets yesterday, as reported by the excellent John Lu (TSN), the Montreal Canadiens are now guaranteed a top-10 draft pick.
The trade with the Coyotes, involving Christian Dvorak, is now officially completed. Arizona will receive the Carolina Hurricanes' first round selection in the upcoming draft. (not the Tricolore's pick).
It's not a big surprise, but it's now official!
It's a nice way to remember it: good thing Marc Bergevin put this clause there... Imagine if we had to send the CH's first round pick to the Coyotes for Dvorak! It would have been catastrophic!
