At least that's what Montreal Hockey Now. reports.
It's not unlike the situation of Jordan Harris, another Northeastern defenseman drafted by Montreal who took his time before signing a contract with the CH, choosing to return to college a year ago.
Finally, Harris signed with Montreal at the end of the season.
Will Struble do the same? Will he choose to test his autonomy next summer? Will the Canadiens lose him?
It will be something to watch, but for now, Struble has chosen not to sign with the Tricolore and return to the NCAA.
We're talking about a very intriguing 20 year old defenseman who seems to have good potential and is very physical. This will be his fourth season in the NCAA at Northeastern.
Struble was Jordan Harris' teammate in 2021-2022, and with Harris' departure, he will have a bigger role and bigger responsibilities. How he responds to that mandate will say a lot about his potential to become a defenseman in the NHL.
Some compare him to, well, Alexander Romanov.
A second round pick of the Habs, 46th overall in 2019, Struble had three goals and 11 assists for a total of 14 points in 34 games last season along with a +15 rating.
Expect Kent Hughes to come back and try to sign him next spring, or risk losing him without receiving anything in return.
