With the break of activities in the Bettman circuit, this allows us to evaluate the first part of the season. Of course, as with every season, there are surprises and many of his surprises came in front of the net.
In the race for the Vezina Trophy, several names will surprise hockey fans, as they were not really expected in the fight for this trophy at the beginning of the season.
They are Jack Campbell of the Leafs, Jakob Markstrom of the Flames and Tristan Jarry of the Penguins. The three guards showed very interesting statistics during the months of October to December.
They all managed to keep average goals under the significant bar of two, while keeping a stop percentage above 0.930. They also racked up a grand total of 11 shutouts, five for Markstrom and three each for the other two goaltenders.
The season is still young, so it is quite possible that the picture will change between now and then. We must not forget Andrei Vasilevskiy who could mix things up, just like Frederik Andersen with the Hurricanes and Juuse Saros with the Predators.
Who do you think deserves the honour of the best goalkeeper in the NHL right now?
