According to what the informer Darren Dreger revealed yesterday in his traditional "Insider Trading" capsule on TSN, despite the intense rumors of the last few days, the Seattle Kraken would finally have the intention to keep Shane Wright with them.
While Wright was already involved in the OHL trade rumors, he may not even make it to the junior ranks after all:
"Dreger on Insider Trading says it's very likely that Shane Wright will stay with the Kraken. An interesting addition, there is a clause in the NHL/CHL agreement that allows eligible junior players to be loaned to the AHL. For that to happen, Wright must be a healthy scratch for five straight games." - NHL Watcher
It would be quite a turnaround and a surprise development, but Wright could finally end up in the AHL, an option no one thought possible.
On the other hand, Wright could then be loaned out to the AHL for a maximum of (only) 14 days. After that, the Kraken will have to make another decision.
Also, General Manager Francis is reportedly considering the idea of sending Wright to the World Junior Hockey Championship in December to play a few games.
In short, this continues to be the talk of the town, and experts continue to find it a very odd and risky way to develop a young fourth overall pick who just missed a full year of hockey.
Wright, 18, has one point in six NHL games this season, and is averaging 7 minutes 59 seconds per game (in the few games he has played).
Do you think he will have a better career than Juraj Slafkovsky?
