In a press briefing in the last few seconds, National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman answered a few questions and made a few announcements. The most important being the following:
"NHL revenues were $5.4 billion last season." - Renaud Lavoie
So the impact is major in terms of the NHL salary cap, which obviously won't go up as much as we hoped, in the end.
"The salary cap is expected to increase by only $1 million next season, according to Gary Bettman." - Renaud Lavoie
A disappointment for the general managers of the NHL, including of course the Montreal Canadiens' Kent Hughes.
"Gary Bettman says current revenue projections seem to indicate that the cap will only increase by $1 million next year." - Pierre LeBrun
That could make it hard for a lot of executives, especially those with big contracts to settle soon. More details to come.
