Everything was going normally for Laine until the first intermission, but he never returned to the bench for the start of the second period and did not play again afterward.
The organization then announced that it was an upper-body injury for Laine.
As of today and at the time of writing, there have been no updates on Laine's condition. However, several sources have suggested that Laine was clearly targeted by the Columbus Blue Jackets (his former teammates).
Was Patrik Laine Pulled From the Game as a Precaution?
Some believe so.
Clearly, Patrik Laine's comments to The Athletic did not go over well. Every time he was on the ice, he was hit hard by his former teammates. His absence since the start of the second period is quite easy to explain.
- Renaud Lavoie
It's clear that Laine's comments did not sit well in the Blue Jackets' locker room and that a message was sent (physically).
«Laine lit a fire today in the Jackets' locker room. And he paid the price dearly during the game. Clearly, they were out to make him pay.»
- Anthony Marcotte, BPM Sports
Let's recall that in an interview with The Athletic in recent hours, Laine confirmed that he requested a trade from Columbus because he was tired of losing and, essentially, tired of being in a locker room that seemed to accept defeat.
Let's hope he is okay and returns to action soon.
