It's no secret that it's a matter of hours (or days) before Ben Chiarot is traded by the Montreal Canadiens.
Without his minor injury suffered last weekend, it would even have already been done, according to Renaud Lavoie.
New development
Major new information has just surfaced about this upcoming trade. Insider Chris Johnston, on The Chris Johnston Show, discussed the matter and he too is of the opinion that Chiarot will be traded very soon. Johnston also added that, in addition to the Panthers, Flames and Blues, there are also the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are interested and who have inquired to trade for Chiarot.
There is more.
The insider revealed a big piece of information at the very end of the episode:
«The Canadians are ready to retain 50% of his salary, they have made it known to everyone who has called to inquire." -Chris Johnston
It's major and it's great news, because it increases the return we will receive in exchange for Chiarot.
Already at $3.5 million for the rest of the season, he's a bargain, at half that amount, it gets REALLY interesting, especially since the majority of teams that are "buyers" have almost no space below the salary cap.
Chiarot therefore really stands out from the other defenders available, at this level, and there will be a lot of suitors.
The return is rumored to be: a first-round pick + a third-round pick. (or the equivalent in prospects)
