For the past few weeks, we've been talking a lot about the possibility of Kent Hughes acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois this summer, especially since we know that the CH general manager tried to acquire him in the Montreal draft.

Despite all the speculation, we didn't really know what the Jets' asking price was until today. On that subject, there is some news.

According to what reporter Arpon Basu (The Athletic) reports on the The Athletic Support podcast, there is now a comparable.

Teams looking to acquire Dubois, such as the Montreal Canadiens, should rely on the Jacob Trouba trade, justly made by the Winnipeg Jets' general manager. (with Jeff Gorton and the New York Rangers) Well, well, well!

Recall that in January 2019, the Jets traded Trouba to New York, against:

- Defenseman Neal Pionk
and
- A 2019 first-round pick, which became the 20th overall, which became Ville Heinola.

So if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton (of the Canadiens) want to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois, they will surprisingly have to offer a similar return to Winnipeg.

Even though Dubois and Trouba are two totally different players, obviously, Winnipeg's general manager sees them as having similar value.

Clearly, the 20th pick of 2019 (given up in the Trouba trade) would be the 2023 first round pick of the Florida Panthers here, which the Canadiens could protect from the top-3. (Just in case)

As for Neal Pionk, in 2019 he was a 23-year-old defenseman with good potential who had just put up 26 points in 73 games with the Rangers.

You'd think his 2019 value would be similar to the current value of a Justin Barron or Jordan Harris, if you believe the insiders.

IN BRIEF

So, to acquire Dubois now, the CH will have to pay some kind of Justin Barron or Jordan Harris, in addition to the Panthers' first pick, next season.

If you were Kent Hughes, would you accept?

TO MONTREAL - Pierre-Luc Dubois

TO WINNIPEG - Jordan Harris or Justin Barron + 2023 Panthers 1st round pick (top-10 protected)

If the Panthers' pick miraculously becomes a top-10 pick, he would be protected.
