As you know and as we reported, less than two months after his dismissal by the Montreal Canadiens, Marc Bergevin didn't wait too long before finding a job with an NHL team.
The Los Angeles Kings have named him a senior advisor.
Since Bergevin was coming into an organization where the GM was at the end of his contract, many believed that he was going to be the Kings' next GM.
After all, many reliable sources agree. Bergevin will return as GM in the NHL one day if he wants to. He has very good contacts and an excellent reputation in the league.
NEW DEVELOPMENT
In short, it seemed to be in the works for a few weeks, but it is now confirmed: Rob Blake will be back in Los Angeles and he signs a new contract.
We can forget about Marc Bergevin being the next GM of the Kings (at least in the short and medium term)
"I'm told general manager Rob Blake has agreed to a three-year extension with the Kings. It probably won't be officially announced for another week or two, but the source confirms that the deal is done. His current contract expired on June 30." - Pierre LeBrun
Certainly interesting (news worthy) for Bergevin, if he was hoping to become GM there. The matter is now settled.
That said, Marc Bergevin could still get a small promotion as early as next season. (In L.A.) All indications are that he will be the assistant GM to Rob Blake.
More details to follow!
