Zach Werenski breaks the bank in Columbus

The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended the contract of their star defenseman Zach Werenski for six years. It will have a $9.583 million impact on the payroll.
With the departure of Seth Jones to Chicago, Zach Werenski became Jarmo Kekalainen's number one priority. Werenski is a young American left-handed defenseman with incredible talent at only 24 years old. He has invaluable scoring instincts, which likely weighed in on the negotiations.
Werenski's number one goal? To bring a Stanley Cup back to Columbus in the coming years.
Recall that Werenski had scored 20 goals in 63 games in 2019-2020. He will be the face of the organization for years to come along with the team's new acquisition in Adam Boqvist.
Let's also remember that the Grosse Pointe, Michigan native was the eighth overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
