Since the start of camp, it's becoming evident that there are some very good goaltenders within the organization, and some have even started speculating on the possibility of Dobes causing an upset.
What if he were as good as Jacob Fowler but further along in his development?
Believe it or not, Dobes, who stands at 6 feet 5 inches and weighs 200 pounds, shows stats as strong as Jacob Fowler at the same age in the same league.
In his rookie season in the NCAA, he compiled a 21-12-2 record, with a 2.26 GAA and an impressive .934 save percentage.
Last season with the Laval Rocket, he had a 24-18-6 record (in 51 games), a 2.93 GAA, and a .906 save percentage.
He was the most used goaltender in the entire AHL.
In the second half of the season, he was very solid, maintaining a save percentage over .920.
Let's not take anything away from Primeau. He has played some very good games with the Montreal Canadiens, but he has also shown that he can be quite inconsistent.
This could happen at the start of the season or even during the season.
Let's not quickly dismiss the possibility of Jakub Dobes eventually surprising everyone in the Canadiens' net, especially if a strong trade offer lands on Kent Hughes' desk for Cayden Primeau.
Moreover, Connor Hughes seems to have all the skills to be the number one goaltender for the Laval Rocket.
Hughes, who is 6 feet 4 inches and 231 pounds, maintained a ridiculously high save percentage of .940 last season in the top Swiss league (1.73 GAA).
A battle to watch closely.
