The goalie ultimately became a standout player for Team Canada, finishing the competition with a record of six wins to one loss, while maintaining a goals-against average of 1.42 per game and a save percentage of .939.
Why are we talking about Montembeault's stint in international hockey? Because he emerged with renewed confidence, which followed him throughout the Habs season, including the signing of his new contract. Wouldn't it be beneficial for other young CH players to have this experience, right?
Why not give Juraj Slafkovsky this opportunity?
In a recent interview with a Slovak media outlet, Kent Hughes elaborated on the topic by stating that there was no plan yet for his young forward at the end of the campaign.
Just imagine the progression the 19-year-old could make after dominating at the international level. We already see him making great strides, and playing even more hockey, especially after missing a good part of last season, would certainly not harm him.
Don't talk to me about the risk of injuries... He could very well get injured during his summer training, as is often the case these days. Why always fear the worst?
Let's hope that Kent Hughes will be open to sending his players, not just Slafkovsky, if they wish to participate in the competition. Playing a few more games could be beneficial for many, not just for number 20.
