The head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, just gave us a good hint about the upcoming wave of cuts for the Habs.

After last night's game, he mentioned a few names in the final competition, and even his lineup gives us some solid clues.

Let's break it all down.

Cuts to be announced today or tomorrow for the Montreal Canadiens?

That's what many people think, and several analysts are convinced that the targeted players are among those who suited up last night in Toronto.

Let's recall the lines and pairings used last night by Martin St-Louis:

Heineman-Dvorak-Newhook

Roy-Kapanen-Armia

Barré-Boulet/Beck/Kidney

Tuch-Gignac-Pezzetta

Hutson-Barron

Struble-Reinbacher

Xhekaj-Engstrom

Dobes and Hughes

Considering that Emil Heineman, Christian Dvorak, Alex Newhook, Joshua Roy, Oliver Kapanen, Alex Barré-Boulet, Owen Beck, Michael Pezzetta, and Joel Armia shouldn't be among the first players cut, along with Lane Hutson, Justin Barron, Jayden Struble, Arber Xhekaj, and David Reinbacher, that leaves a few options.

It leaves players like Riley Kidney, Brandon Gignac, Luke Tuch, and Adam Engstrom, who may have already played their last preseason game (this year) with the Montreal Canadiens.

Did their performance last night save them from the weekend cuts? It's a story to follow, but as you can see, the competition is fierce, as there are many talented young players within this organization.

And what's your prediction?

In goal, we'll also keep an eye on Connor Hughes, who could be affected if the management wants to give more ice time to Jakub Dobes in the coming days.
