At a press conference after last night's difficult game against the Vegas Golden Knights, head coach Martin St-Louis didn't mince words.
He was clearly unhappy with his players' performance.
Following the embarrassing 6-2 loss to Jack Eichel's squad on Saturday night in Montreal, a visibly disappointed Martin St-Louis faced the media.
Let's not forget that during this disastrous game, the Canadiens allowed five goals in the second period alone, and that several players displayed an absolutely unacceptable level of effort.
In short, the team was booed by its own fans last night, a rare scene at the Bell Centre.
Martin St-Louis responds to upset fans
His message was very clear.
«The boos, we deserved them» - Martin St-Louis, who seemed to agree with the fans.
I genuinely believe that fans understand the team is in a rebuilding phase and likely had less talent than their opponents last night, but effort isn't a matter of talent.
Fans know their hockey.
They can accept a loss to a better team, but a loss like last night's, where several players appeared completely indifferent and unwilling to put in even minimal effort is infuriating.
Moreover, the Vegas Golden Knights had every reason to come out «flat» and more fatigued, as they were playing their third game in four nights and had been on the road for a while.
In short, it's a game Martin St-Louis and his squad will want to forget, and he knows it.
