We've seen it coming for a while now, but there will likely be two new expansion teams soon in the National Hockey League.

As Marco Normandin mentions, it's probably the worst-kept secret in the NHL for a few weeks now, but everything indicates that the league will indeed proceed with two more expansions.

There will be at least 34 teams in the NHL in the near future.

Houston and Atlanta named as the next two cities to get an NHL team: Gary Bettman will be pleased

You read that right.

It's ridiculous to say, but it seems like the NHL is going to try AGAIN to establish a team in Atlanta.

According to a report by journalist Andy Strickland, NHL owners are on the verge of holding an official vote to this effect.

«NHL owners are about to vote to give their support to the opening of a new two-team expansion process.»


Strickland adds that the two leading candidates are Houston and Atlanta.

«NHL owners will soon meet to approve the expansion opening. The main candidates/ownership groups would be Fertitta in Houston and Krause in Atlanta.»

This is huge news, but it's another slap in the face for Quebec Nordiques fans and another blow to the city of Quebec.
